PISTOIA: Canadian pianist Angela Hewitt, who is well known as a Bach specialist, comes back to Pistoia for an all-Mozart concert, with three Piano Concertos and Rondò KV 382 which was written by the composer for his Vienna debut in 1782 as third moviment of Concert KV 175.

Mozart’s evolution was evident in hearing these three concerts one after the others: after an uncertain beginning (Mozart was only 17 when he wrote his Concert nr 5), we witness his full maturity as a musician with wonderful and very famous Concerts nr 14 and 15
.
Just as the growing maturity of the composer reflects in the quality of the interpretation, we’ve heard Angela Hewitt’s growing interpretation, beginning almost in a muted way, with not many ideas and a not very good relationship with the orchestra in Concerto nr 5

. Then things went better going on in crescendo in the progression of the concert.
“Her Mozart is really beautiful, the pianist shows an ideal touch for these pages, her interpretation is probably too much showy but full of pathos and poetry”. Rarely we can hear something of generic, but really rarely: among the authors that I have heard played live by Mrs Hewitt, Mozart is probably the most convincing.
The two local orchestras which in this occasion merged together, Orchestra Pistoiese Promusica and Camerata Strumentale Città di Prato (Pistoia and Prato are two very near towns in Tuscany that, after forgetting their historical rivalry of many centuries ago, now collaborate in musical field, a thing that must be praised) played well and with property.
The succes was warm, and Mrs Hewitt played as a soloist an encore by Bach.
I must point out (I saw it in theatre for the first time) that the pianist used a tablet to read the music instead of the traditional score, a tablet supported by the piano music stand and activated by a little mechanism near to the left pedal of the piano.
