OSLO/NORWAY: Back to Broadway (2nd and 4th July) is a partially staged performance with highlights from the musical theater repertoire. World famous songs, duets and ensembles performed by participants. The show led from the piano by musical specialist Dan Gettinger together with the National Opera’s own soprano Eli Kristin Hansesveen.
Nils Georg H. Nilsen
With many highlights, one person maked his personally breakthrough as musical artist in this production: Nils Georg H. Nilsen. All from the first number Willkommen, Bienvenue, Welcome from Cabaret by John Kander and Fred Ebb, through his many participaitions in soli, duets, like I have dreamed from The King and I by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, together with Charlotte Cromheeke, this was a hit in the first part.
This was too the matter by the opening number of second act. Beautiful Girls from Follies by Stephen Sondheim
. In different ensembles to his Bring him home from Les Miserables, by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg, and finishing leading the finale, he made it. I do sincerelly hope that the musical directors in Scandinavia are awake. Furthermore as a young handsome Don Ottavio, i suppose would be a star role for him right now. In addition i have heard his romances from 2014 at youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFiJfUoMPPc where he is singing Eit Syn by Edvard Grieg, his talent is brilliant also in this connection. Furthermore beautiful vocal sound and brilliant diction.
Another remarkable artist was Chen Laks, who remarkable leaded in many good ensembles, and also brilliantly performed the demanding I Dream a Dream from Les Miserables, by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg.
Rønnaug Sundling was brilliant and very funny in The French Song from My Name is Alice by Art Murray and Don Rucker, where her good diction was importent to catch the amusing “french” text. Furthermore a very good I have confidence from Rodgers and Hammersteins Sound of Music. Then Lona M.V.Beccau entered with the title song from the same musical, nearly like listening to Julie Andrews
.
Eli Kristin Hanssveen was remarkable also in differnet connections and her soli like The Life of the Party from The Wild Party by Andrew Lippa and The Girl in 14G by Jeannine Tessori and Dick Scanlan.
I should have wished to have marked every one like this, but the time dont permit it.
The cast:
Chen Laks, Maria Bordas, Lona M.V. Beccau, Olof Sigridur Valsdottir, Eli Kristin Hanssveen, Charlotte Cromheeke Wajnberg, Monica Fossedal Lauritsen, Edward Mustad, Rønnaug Sundling, Stine Mari Langstrand, Nils Georg H. Nilsen
Last but not least: Excellent light work.
