It all started with the 4th and 5th on Monday, the followed up with 6th and 7th on Tuesday and continued with 1st, 2nd and 3rd Symphonies. It will finish Sunday afternoon with Symphony no. 8th and 9th on.

Right now I have the feeling that the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, for the time being, are quite good in their Beethoven interpretation, among the orchestras I have heard lately being playing Beethoven Symphonies. Spite in this quite good presentation, I believe that The Vienna Philharmonic is better in Bruckner and in other big composer.

Their conductor and musically leader Christian Thielemann has an outstanding Beethoven feeling, and is doing his job so well. With all possible variations, tempos, details, a wonderful group of wooden brass soloists. The fantastic string sound, very well controlled in all tempos and variations. Thielemann has quite a good complete overlook at the whole symphony, and manage to keep the form and the style all the way from vivacious and fortissimo to pianissimo and slow adagio
. Unfortunately in the 1st part of the 3rd Symphony, the orchestra was not completely together.

As with following Richard Wagners opera cycles The Nibelungen Ring, played together during a few days, with the same singers, orchestra and conductor. It gives the same good feeling to follow all the Beethoven symphonies played together during a small week’s time, not interrupted by anything else. This, for me, was giving me, a feeling of “a journey into a moment of pure relaxation”. – Even when the musicians was working at their very best to give me that relaxation.
