• It is a municipal park which was established and developed in the period from 1889 to 1933, and was a popular area for recreation, concerts, dining and socializing.

The famous Norwegian sculpturer Per Ung is represented with this beautiful morher with child sculpture in Ekebergparken.

• Over the following decades the park was “forgotten” and neglected, and through a private initiative by property developer, Oslo-enthusiast and art-lover Christian Ringnes, the area has now been revived and restored.

, with the aim to rehabilitate the park in accordance with today’s standards. In addition to upgrading paths and installing lighting and benches, the whole park will feature artworks by internationally renowned artists such as Rodin, Renoir and Dalì to name a few, and many world-class contemporary artists  will contribute in making this park one of the most exciting art projects in Europe this autumn.

• Several of the artworks are site specific commissions by artists invited to create a piece for the park: James Turrell, Jenny Holzer, Dan Graham, Tony Oursler and Marina Abramovic

• As part of the park, the geographical viewpoint and backdrop of the  world-famous painting “Scream” by Edvard Munch is situated on the hill overlooking the Oslo fjord. It will be officially opened and accessible to the public from October 24th.

• The oldest proven settlements in Oslo, with stone carvings from the iron-age dating back as far as 10 000 years, are found in the park and make this area important as a cultural heritage site.

• In upgrading and revitalizing the park, the aim is to create an interesting and lasting recreational zone in close proximity to downtown Oslo for the city’s inhabitants.

• The two lovely Swiss chalet-style houses located at Kongsveien 21 and 23 will be renovated, and their gardens will be replanted according to 19th century garden landscaping design.
