Three of the main stars in Show Boat, which was a success at Theatre du Chatelet, Paris

The wonderful Jerome Kern – Oscar Hammerstein II musical Show Boat has been playing for fully houses at Theatre du Chatelet this October. With so many well sounding melodies, and an outstanding cast, brilliant dansers, choire and Orchestre Pasdeloup  conducted by Albert Horne.it is a great pleasure to enjoy this production guesting from the Cape Town Opera

.  Unfortunately 19 October was the last day
.

For me it was too a pleasure again to enjoy the brilliant production, who was guesting the Norway some years ago. The production has been even better now.

In the leading roles we enjoyed the first couple Magnolia; Janelle Visagie and her “Why do I love You?that she sings to her inveterate gambler, Gaylord Ravenal, splendid sung by the great tenor Blake Fischer.

The leading black couple was Joe: Otto Maidi, which sings the famouse bas arie “Old Man River” he is exactly the right type for this role, and the wonderful and all embrasing, warm, Queenie: Miranda Tini.

Julie was beautifully sung and performed by Angela Kerrison, wonderful performingBill” and “Why can´t I stop lovin that man”.

Furtherone as the amusing Jolie Angela Kerrison. In the character roles Capitaine Andy; Malcolm Terry, he is a hit in such kind of role, and Parthy: Diane Wilson.

Kern & Hammerstein II: SHOW BOAT

At Theatre du Chatelet from October 2 to 19, 2010

The innovative aspect of Show Boat and its huge success in 1927 makes it a milestone in the history of musicals.
Based on a novel by Edna Ferber emotionally charged, Show Boat evokes courageously beyond the romantic situations, previously taboo subjects:
the marital strife and racial issues to the Black community. In the segregated America of the 1920s, it was a tremendous gamble. Nothing like that had been presented on Broadway.
