Review by Henning Høholt

Herbert Blomstedt

Ludwig van Beethoven:

Leonore II (Ouverture)

Concerto pour piano no 1.

Symphonie n° 3 “Eroica”

Lars Vogt, birlliant pianist in Beethoven 1. piano concerto

PARIS: The brilliant and symphatic pianist Lars Vogt was soloist in Ludwig van Beethoven: Concerto pour piano no 1. I was amazed to enjoy his brilliance, his power, and contrasting light sensitive touch in the piano concerto. It was an extraordinary event. A good coordination between Lars Vogt and Herbert Blomstedt, and wonderful to follow the beautiful details, and to enjoy the cooperation with the great cello soloist

.

The first class  Orchestre de Paris opened the Beethoven evening well with Leonore II (Ouverture),  after the break Symphonie n° 3 “Eroica”. This orchestra is among the best french orchestras, and it is clear that Paavo Järvi as Music chief is doing a good job with the orchestra
. When they then is getting a so highly qualified conductor as Herbert Blomstedt on the podium for a whole Beethoven evening, Then the success is there. It was during the whole concert a pleasure to enjoy the many great soloplayers in all part ofthe orchestra, and to note the musically cooperation between the conductor and the orchestra. A good trumpet soloist outside.

The Salle Pleyel

A legendary landmark

In 1927, the Pleyel piano manufacturer, already more than a hundred years old, confirmed its glory by investing in the construction of a new hall that was entirely devoted to concert music: a vast building was decided upon not far from the place de l’Étoile, with a 3,000 seat auditorium built in a modern style for the period. The Salle Pleyel, designed by the architect Gustave Lion thus opened on October 19th, 1927, inaugurated by a monumental concert combining Wagner, the great names of international music (Falla, Stravinsky) and representatives of the French musical scene (Franck, Dukas, Debussy and Ravel).

The renovations that were conceived and undertaken by IDSH respond to the ambitions of a project to recover the plainness and purity that characterised the original aesthetic of the place

. The restoration of the façades, of the hall, of the foyer and the interior of the hall, give the whole a more seductive appearance and greatly improve its comfort.
