The great composer Richard Wagner 200 years birthday to day
. He was born May 22. 1813
. Is celebrated all over the world.

PARIS: At the Paris Opera, Bastille, his famouse work, The Nibelungen Ring is being performed, with Götterdämmerung right now, as the last of the four parts being presented in 2013, Das Rheingold, Die Walküre, Siegfried and Götterdämmerung. – From German Götterdämmerung (“Twilight of the gods”), especially as the title of an opera by Richard Wagner; by erroneously translating Old Norse Ragnarök (“fate of the gods”), misconstrued as Ragnarökkr (“twilight of the gods”). During the summer it will be presented together with one full Niebelungen Festival Ring 18. 19. 23. 26. June.

THIRD DAY IN THREE ACTS OF THE STAGE FESTIVAL DER RING DES NIBELUNGEN (1876)

Amongst the most monumental works in the history of music, The Twilight of the Gods presents us with Siegfried and Brünhilde’s march towards death, sweeping away with them the gods and the entire world of old; a parable for humanity sustained by sublime musical and theatrical inspiration
.

It is a modern production, which for me the first time I attended it seemed very strange, I was loosing all the romantic atmosphaere. However, the production is now being repeated, and I am getting used to it, and it works well. Mostly because of a good cast, and how the wodnerful music is being played leaded by the outstanding young Music chief at Opera de Paris: Philippe Jordan.

In the cast we enjoyed especially Hans Peter König as Hagen, first class
. Furthermore Sophie Koch as Waltraute and Zweite Norn. Petra Lang, brilliant as Brünhilde, while Evgeny Nikitin did a good Gunther, and Edith Haller as Gutrune and Dritte Norn.

Torsten Kerl is singing Siegfried, as he did in Siegfried. To me last night, the 21th May, was the best I have heard of him during the last years. Furthermore he was looking younger, slimmer and handsome on stage. Unfortunately, he was the only in the cast who received a large BUHing form the audience during the last applause. I feel that he is too little expressive.

He is announced as one of the best Heldentenors in the world to day. It seems like the audience dont agree

The Opera choire is as allways very good. Patrick Marie Aubert is master if the choire.

The staging by Günter Krämer functions as it shall, we understand the history, Jürgen Bäckmann´ scenography works in this connection, and the costumes by Falk Bauer is normally dreeses for the leading singers, and quite good long evening dresses for Brünhilde. Diego Leetz light works well, and the videos by Stefan Bischoff is good.

But still the production is not anything to remember for the future.

It will only be remembered because of how well it sounds. As the musicality is outstanding.
