PARIS: For his first creation for the Paris Opera Ballet, Jean-Guillaume Bart brings a forgotten repertoire work back to life alongside Christian Lacroix and Eric Ruf.

For the audience, it is interesting that the Paris Ballet is continuing its great tradition inviting their own dancers to make choreographyes for their stages
. In this way they continue building up their own chroeographers, which, of cource, has a benefit, since they know the house, the French traditons, the French dance style, and their colleagues well, and then can form their choreographyes in to the tradition.

But in addition to their own specialityes, capacitees and wishes renew the tradition. In this also by inviting new cooperators for making the sets, scenography, costumes as in this case by etting the famouse couturier Christian Lacroix designing the costumes , choosing conductors, and the soloists and other dancers they wish for their production.

I am sure that the balletchief in Paris, Birgitte Lefevre, with her outstanding staff is letting this happen, of course, when it is is practically and financially possible for the production.

The international critic staff of Kulturkompasset, Henning Høholt and Christophe de Jouvancourt is looking forward to review the production of La Source by Jean-Guillaume Bart for our medias. by Henning Høholt, editor in chief, Kulturkompasset.

LA SOURCE:

The Persia of legend and fantasy provides the backdrop for the thwarted loves of the hunter Djemil, the beautiful Nouredda and the spirit of the spring, Naila. For his first creation for the Paris Opera Ballet, Etoile Dancer Jean-Guillaume Bart comes to grips with this libretto and breathes new life into a long neglected work from the repertoire, originally created for the Paris Opera in 1866. The light and colourful score was a joint effort from Ludwig Minkus and Léo Delibes in what was their first ballet composition
. The libretto by Arthur Saint-Léon and Charles Nuitter, future composer of Coppélia, draws on Wagnerian romanticism, orientalism and Shakespearean influences and contrasts the real world with the realms of elves, nymphs and ethereal beings. Working in close collaboration with the dramatist Clément Hervieu-Léger, Jean-Guillaume Bart helps to restore La Source with all its original freshness.

This wonderfully poetic dance tale of astounding virtuosity is further enhanced by Christian Lacroix’s flamboyant costumes and Eric Ruf’s evocative and fluid use of space.
