. This famous conductor, Mariss Jansons, has this little extra who can give the members of the orchestra the spirit, energy, inspiration and enthusiasm and, through his wide knowledge of the works the expertise to get each single member of the orchestra and as a total, to perform in an outstanding way. This was what the audience experienced at Theatre des Champs Elysees in Paris Saturday October 10th.

MIDORI with Beethovens violinconcerto. Opus 61.

In the first part of the concert we enjoyed Midori as soloist in Ludwig van Beethovens Violin concerto in D major opus 61.

It became extraordinary Midori played the soft parts of the concert specially the two first parts as if it was Laces she was embroidering in a delicious chamber music way, which was very close, followed up by the orchestra, who played like it was chamber music, soft very soft, when needed and in the contrasting orchestra parts Mariss Jansons played with the fully Beethoven sound, which gave us the feeling of the many moods in this beautifully concerto.

Tchaikovsky Symphony number 5. E-minor.  Opus 64.

For me, who have had the great pleasure of listening to Mariss Jansons during his 21 years in Oslo as head of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, it was not any surprise that the Peter Tchaikovsky Symphony no 5 would be great, and it became so. Mariss Jansons has this little extra, and through his rehearsing with the orchestra, has a perfectionism which is not spoiling the music, only giving us clear lines and his direction is wonderful, also to look at deeply concentrated, and as in the last 4-5- minutes very relaxed like he is only standing there enjoying his orchestra playing nearly without any signals from the conductor. It is only the conductor who is preparing his orchestra well, who can permit himself to relax a bit during the last minutes. During all the concert very many outstanding soloists were heard in the orchestra.

It was a great evening at Theatre des Champs Elysees, Paris.
