MONTREUX/SCHWEIZ: In 2014, the Montreux-Vevey Music Festival Septembre Musicalcelebrates its 69th edition, with some wonderful surprises, a perfect prelude to its 70 year anniversary in 2015!
The festival, starts August 28th and it is going on until 12th September. Among others it will host an orchestra with a very particular and fascinating background: the Youth Orchestra of Bahia (YOBA).
Created in 2007 by pianist and conductor Ricardo Castro, today the YOBA orchestra is made up of 130 musicians coming from difficult suburbs of Salvador de Bahia, between the ages of 12 and 26 years old. From the 5th to the 9th of September 2014, you will have the rare opportunity to discover such passionate musicians, whose hearts and souls are fully animated by the music they play and with an incredible focus on quality. In the program, we have some symphonic concerts, some workshops as well as some rehearsals open to the public under the direction of the young conductor Yuri Azevedo (21 years old!) and of Ricardo Castro.
Loyal to its tradition, Septembre Musical will also host the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra London as orchestra in residence, one of the most prestigious orchestras in the world to interpret Richard Wagner, Ludwig van Beethoven, Dmitri Shostakovich, Maurice Ravel, Camille Saint-Saëns and Béla Bartók. The orchestra is evolving under the remarkable direction of its principal conductor Charles Dutoit, a personality so entwined to the festival for already many years.
We will have the honor to welcome two other prestigious orchestras. Firstly, the Czech Philharmonic with as conductor the great Jiří Bělohlávek for Dvorak’s Concerto in B Minor for Cello and Orchestra as well as Beethoven’s Symphony no.7 in A major and then the Russian National Orchestra with Conrad van Alphen and Mikhail Pletnev who will interpret two symphonic programs dedicated to Mozart or Schumann/Mendelssohn, it is for you to choose!
In parallel to this rich symphonic program in the Auditorium Stravinski, we will also have the pleasure of welcoming legendary pianists such as Radu Lupu, Martha Argerich, and inspired soloists like Alisa Weilerstein, James Ehnes, Colin Currie or Corey Cerovsek, and last but not least young laureates of the Verbier Academy with whom the festival collaborates each year

Let us finally mention beautiful projects such as the Night of the Pianists, which will bring together no less than eight pianists, laureates of great international prizes in an exceptional marathon, a gigantic concert of school kids playing with the young YOBA musicians who will transmit to our children a vibrant passion for classical music!
An edition that brings together the continents and the generations, undoubtedly the sign of a new way of looking at classical music in the 21st century
