PARIS/FRANCE: Philippe Jordans musicality is extraordinare, his forming of the orchestral pieces, so that even Arnold Schönbergs pling plong variations are being interesting, However it was the Mahler no 4 Sympnony who became the high light of the evening. This symphony where the last part Das himmliche Leben, with the soprano soloist Genia Kühmeier, which ends in a pianissimo, was wonderful.
I am so happy that from the program I know that after Arnold Schönbergs “Pling plong” variations, with Gustav Mahlers 4th Symphony there would come some wonderful musicto listen to. In the 4th Symphony Mahler is starting with warm feelings, making atmosphaere
. I feel like he is telling me a fairytale, and as usual, also in a fairytale you dont know in what direction it will go, the only thing in this fairytale is that we do know that the last part is with “The heavenly life”, – described to be played in a very comfortable way
. – Which reminds me of the famouse composer Edvard Elgar story: It is being told that Mr. Elgar one time got the question
. “When you die, where would you like to go Upstairs or Downstairs?”. Mr. Elgar was thinking a lo,t before he replyed: “Well, for the clima – upstairs, but for the company – downstairs”.
Philippe Jordan manages to form his orchestre in the way he wants and through that he is giving the long themes many special moments in his musically forming of the themes tempi. Furthermore he let his many outstanding soloplayers get time to show each their form of their solo parts, without letting it stop the musical flow, and this shows an incredible musicality.
