REFRESHING CONCERT WITH ORCHESTRE NATIONAL DE FRANCE

After two evenings with Beethoven Sympninies played by The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, it was refreshing to hear something completely different at Theatre des Champs elysees, before Beethoven continues Saturday and Sunday.

A rather special program presenting repetitive music by John Adams, Not so often heard Capricio and Pianoconcerto for piano and wind instruments by Stravinskij, with an energetic, sometimes nearly boxing piano soloist Alexander Toradze, sometimes stampnig the tempis in the floor. And with a dancing conductor Kristjan Järvi, I suppose it was his own improvised choreography and jumps. Two quite different musicla artists, but it became a success. It all ended with Rachmaninoffs Symphonic Dances, in the same way like other big national componists, Grieg, Dvorak, Rimsky-Kosakov, but this work, in fact the last by Sergei Rachmaninoff was individual, and very well sounding, after lot of pling plong in the Stavinsky part of the concert. After the concert, John Adams work was the one we enjoyed mostly.
