Simone Boccanegra – The wonderful baryton in the titerole Zeljko Lucic, in what shall look like the meeting room at the Doge palais in Venezia, – what a joke!

MUNICH: Unfortunately, the wonderful music by Giuseppe Verdi and the outstanding singers got spoiled their Simone Boccanegra by a scandalouse tasteless modern Simone Boccanegra in Munich. What we heard in the text and in the music was one history, -wonderful- , and what we had as the pictures was from another world, which not had anything to do with the history that is used by Verdi to compose his opera Simone Boccanegra. – The operachief should have said no. “This is not for my operahouse”. – It is a tasteless production, mostly because of the scenography and costumes, – Staging and stage by Dmitri Tcherniakov. And the daily costumes by Elena Zaytseva  and that it is tryed to modernize in to something, that somebody, somewhere in the production staffs, not lively, phantasy. Light Gleb Filshtinsky.

In the very beginning I was positive to the opening picture, as I thought that the producing theme has been thinking of a kind of a “Godfather” idea, which could have been interesting, but when we went on to the second picture, then it was all lost on the floor (stage). 3rd and 2nd act in a kind of a school meeting room with many ordinary school chairs, it seemed that the budget was used, and therefore there were no more money to fulfill the production. What a pity. Operamillions out of the window for a useless Simone Boccanegra production.

Well. –  The brilliant singers, did their absolutely best, and sometimes we got good moments out of it, but it was not because of the tasteloose scenography and costumes, that was because of outstandingn singers. In the titelrole – Simone Boccanegra – Zeliko Lucic. Amelia Grimaldi wonderful sung by Krasimira Stovanova, booring dressed, except when she arrive in her wedding dress. Jacopo FIESCO – Vitaly Kovalev. Gabriele Adorno – Ramón Vargas, hopeless dress in a motorcycle outfit, which was not to his type. Only when also he arrived in his wedding outfit, he looked great, elegantly. 

Furthermore: Paolo Albiani, – Levente Molnár. Pietro – Goran Juric. Captain – Joshua Stewart. The servant of Amelia – Iulia Maria Dan. The Bavarian State Opera Orchestra, Very good and musically conducted by Bertrand de Billy, The first class Chorus of the Bavarian State Opera, leaded by Sören Eckhoff. 

The production will be reviewed again 14./17./21./24. Apr. 2014
