MUNICH: Richard Wagners opera Siegfried is one of the lightest and most cheerful, and it was it also in this production at the Bayerisches Staatsoper.

Review by Henning Høholt. Photos by Wilfried Hösl

First of all a wonderful cast, as Siegfried Stephen Gould, who has a lot to sing through all acts, and was at the very top all the way, it didn´t look or sound like  he tried to share any energy to the last demanding act, and he presented top quality all the way to the very end!!!!
.

Wolfgang Ablinger-Sperrhacke was brilliant forming the figure of Mime, as we also know him from his Paris Ring lately.

The third of the big international stars in Siegfried is Terje Stenvold as Der Wanderer, he is presenting his role outstanding and singing extraordinary well
. Even, as in this case, it was his first time on the stage of Der Bayerisches Staatsoper, and together with 80 statists, it became extraordinay, that also the audience remunerated with overwhelming applause.

The very hit from Das Rheingold, Tomasz Konieczny was well back as Alberich. Furthermore it was a great pleasure to enjoy the wonderful looking and singing Catherine Naglestad as the Siegfrid Brünnhilde.

Interesting in this Münchener Ring is that the stage director Andreas Kriegenburg, together with the casting deprtement, has chose different characters to underline the different characters in each of the Ringen operas, where as Wotan is sung by Johan Reuther in Das Rheingold, by Bryn Terfel, who added his personality to Die Wälküre, and in Siegfried where Terje Stensvold was the gorgeouse choicse for Der Wanderere (Wotan)
. This gives the audience the possibility to understand how importent job the casting departement is dealing with. The same is the matter for Brünhilde, which is sung by three different personalityes, first Katharina Dalaymann in Die Walküre, then Catherine Naglestad in Siegfried, and in Götterdämmerung by Nina Stemme.

In all the Three first operas of Der Ring in Munich the Statisteri is doing an outstanding job, i suppose, led be the choreographer Zenta Harrier. Their participation is forming these three operas in to a visuality, which lifts the quality of these performances to a much higher level, through forming sculptural and moving groups in the most fantasie full ways. Furthermore it continues in Götterdämmerung Bravo.
