FIRENZE/TEALY; In his last current tour, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra has performed in Florence a concert for the ages. This Orchestra was founded in 1882 by the will of Csar Alexander 3rd, and in his long history was conducted for over 50 years by the great Evgeni Mravinskji and has collaborated with the most important conductors and soloists.

In the program of this concert in Florence was, among other pages, the famous Violin Concerto op

. 64 by Felix Mendelssohn, soloist young Spanish Leticia Moreno, whose playing is essentially lyric and was very appreciated by the audience that filled the House, even if her sound isn’t really great or various in expressivity
. She shows a very good intonation, and is more convincing in most melodic pages than in others where more intensity is needed. Orchestral accompaniment wasn’t not always very according to the soloist, conductor Temirkanov showed many ideas not always followed by Mrs. Moreno. The young soloist gave also an encore by Manuel De Falla.

The remaining program included works by Chaikovsky and Stravinsky, both componists very important for this Orchestra and his conductor, for historic and executive reasons.

Temirkanov’s rendering of Chaikovsy’s Francesca da Rimini was evident and full of colours, but Stravinsky’s Petruska was quite sensational, thanks to an orchestra who goes on his way perfectly, and which is also to admire for his familiarity to Temirkanov’s gesture, although not easy and not very clear for everybody.

It has been almost an orgy of colours and sounds, created by the extraordinary technique and the “Russian soul” of the players, with the precious colour of strings, their phrasing and their perfect and natural breathing
. Specially perfect were woodwinds, but all the sections were in a very good shape.

At the end we can say it has been a very beautiful concert by a wonderful Orchestra heard under its principal conductor Yuri Temirkanov, who has also accorded two very beautiful encores and had a real triumph from the audience that filled up the House.
