MONTECARLO/MONACO: Established in 1985 thanks to an initiative spearheaded by HRH the Princess of Hanover, the Ballets de Monte-Carlo Company is celebrating its 30th anniversary. Over the past three decades, the company has been treating members of the public to a range of choreographic delights, effortlessly switching repertoires to showcase all of their richness and subtleties. This vision of choreographic art will be further consolidated this autumn by Jean-Christophe Maillot, Choreographer and Director of the Ballets de Monte-Carlo, thanks to the 2015-2016 line-up.

In October 2015, following the first Imprévus sessions at the Atelier that allowed members of the audience to get up close and personal with the dancers, it’s the Salle Garnier room’s turn to host the public:

Jean-Christophe Maillot will be restaging Entrelacs as well as his ravishing Vers un Pays Sage and will unveil his latest creation, Presque rien.

December is set to be one of the season’s highlights. For those who have been steadily forging an emotional tie with the Ballets de Monte-Carlo company, the Inattendus are especially for them
. These sessions grant members of the audience access to a special moment with the artists they so admire. Pina Bausch‘s Vollmond takes to the stage next, performed by the Tanztheater Wupperthal Pina Bausch at the Grimaldi Forum

To end the year in style, Jean-Christophe Maillot will be restaging the Casse Noisette Compagnie with the Ballets de Monte-Carlo company. First staged in a series of sell-out performances in 2013, this ballet plunges the audience into the choreographer’s artistic inner world populated by the emblematic characters his imagination has been whipping up throughout his career. Students at the Princess Grace Academy will be performing in this highlight event alongside the Company’s dancers, accompanied by the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra. The Ballets de Monte-Carlo doesn’t do things by halves, and in celebration of its 30th anniversary, the performance will be screened in cinemas thanks to international live broadcasting on 30 December 2015 (in partnership with Telmondis, CNC, Lagardère Entertainment, Live Digital Cinema, France Télévisions, Mezzo).

The remainder of the season is packed full of even more surprises. First up is Singing in the Train, a musical brought to you by the Centre de Création Vocale et Scénique by 60 young performers in February 2015, followed by more Imprévus sessions in April and an exceptional evening of entertainment from Ballets de Monte-Carlo dancers and Jiri Kylian. The month of May will see the Company’s young dancers and choreographers showcase their creations in collaboration with set and stage design students at the City of Monaco’s École Supérieure d’Arts Plastique fine art school.

unnamed (1)Summer 2016 will be sizzling, kicking off in June with the Princess Grace Academy Gala (accompanied by the Young International Orchestra of Monte-Carlo), followed by Letter to a Man by Robert Wilson and Mikhail Barysnikov, in which the legendary dancer performs an intimate, poignant piece based on the diary of Vaslav Nijinsky. Two pieces by Jereon Verbruggen and Vladimir Varnanava will then be showcased at the Salle Garnier before the season’s grand finale: the “f(Ê)aiTes de la danse” dance festival.

In celebration of their 30th anniversary, the Ballets de Monte-Carlo is pulling out all the stops and taking over Monte Carlo’s Opéra district
