On this occasion the director of the Paris Opera house mr. Nicolas Joel in the welcoming to the season 2011-2012 mentions:

“From the heights of the Palais Garnier Apollo brandishes his lyre, showing it off to the world. Nothing lifts us higher than music, nothing lets us travel so far. Dance and opera alike are expressions of music’s mystery and magic. The Paris Opera’s mission is to bring music to as wide an audience as possible. Every year it opens the doors of its two theatres to more than 800,000 spectators. All may enjoy the opportunity to see the repertoire’s finest works in the best possible conditions, with the greatest performers of our times
. And now, television broadcasts and cinema screenings of our performances enable us to reach an even larger audience. Each new season is a major step in this path”.
