OPERA OPENING THE SEASON IN FRANCE, AUTUMN 2010.
The Paris Opera is starting the autumn season with three older production, The Flying Dutchmann by Richard Wagner, The Italienne in Algier by Giacomo Rossini and Eugène Onegin by Peter Tchaikovskij, with great voices in the leading roles as for exemple Vivica Geneaux in the Rossini piece and Ludovic Tèzier in Onegin. The first new production, is not only one opera but three one act operas, the Tripticon by Giacomo Puccini. In addition Matthias the Painter by Paul Hindemith with the great baryton Matthias Goerne in one of the most beautiful roles in the German repertoire, and with Christopher Eschenbach making his debut as conducter at Opera Bastille. With Michael Franck as new director of Theatre des Champs Elysees, Paris, he is opening his first season with a contemporary opera, Passion by Pascal Dusapin in Ocober, and continuing with Orlando by Händel with Emanuel Haïm and David McVicar.
The region operas in France are presenting safe operas at their programmes such as La Boheme by Puccini in Toulouse, Carmen by George Bizet in Bordeaux, Madame Butterfly by Puccini in Dijon. The Barber in Sevilla by Rossini in Nantes
. Nancy is presenting Rusalka by Dvorak, and in Strassbourg the wonderful Verdi opera Simone Boccanegra
