MILANO/ITALY: Violeta Urmana takes over the role of Santuzza at short notice in a new staging of Cavalleria rusticana at La Scala in Milan

. The role of Santuzza has already brought Violeta Urmana high praise. Quite recently, she sang Santuzza in St. Petersburg and she will again take the role in 2016 at the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
The 2006/2007 season in Milan enjoyed a splendid opening with a new production of Aida staged by Franco Zeffirelli with Violeta Urmana in the title role and Riccardo Chailly on the rostrum conducting the Chorus and Orchestra of the Teatro alla Scala. A recording of that performance was subsequently released on DVD by Decca.
The singer has performed in the past at La Scala in many roles, including parts in Die Walküre, Armide, Verdi’s Requiem, Il trovatore, Iphigénie en Aulide and as Lady Macbeth in Macbeth. Premiere: June 12, 2015, 20.00 hrs Further performances: June 15, 17, 20 and 23, 2015
