DOBRINKA TABAKOVA – POSITIVE SURPRISE in Vilnius

DOBRINKA TABAKOVA – POSITIVE SURPRISE

Maxim Rysanov - Inspired soloist and conductor

Maxim Rysanov - Inspired soloist and conductor

The Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra invited to concert at Vilnius National Philharmonic Hall April 28, 2010 with a brilliant program, with Janine Jansen, violin and Maksim Rysanov, viola as star guests, the last too as conductor.

The program enclosed Franz Schubert Sonata for Viola and Piano, a-minor D 821 from 1824, with an inspired Maksim Rysanov, viola  as soloists

.  arranged for Viola and chamber orchestra (22 musicians) by the young Bulgarian born composer Dobrinka Tabakova. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart´s Sinfonia Concertante for violin, viola in Ess dur, KV 364, from 1779. with Janine Jansen, violin and Maksim Rysanov, viola  as soloists. Both these numbers were brilliantly performed with the outstanding soloists, and for me the concert hall has an outstanding good acoustic, which gave specially beautiful sound in the pianissimo parts during the concert.

However, it was the last pert before break. A suite in old style, for viola, cembalo and chamber orchestra, by the above mentioned composer Dobrinka Tabakova. Which became the big pleasant surprise of the evening, and the big hit of the concert. Immediately when it started I got the feeling like I was far back in the 1800 century’s aristocratic style at Versailles, or even earlier at the Trakai Castle, with drum played by Maksim Rysanov and tambourine, and a march like theme, which soon went over to the Viola concerto part, where the composer had let herself inspire to improve the viola part and direct it in to a contemporary feeling, but without losing the atmosphere of the old time, and as mentioned in the program the inspiration from and as a homage to the French composer Rameau.

This piece I would hope that Dobrinka Tabakova will let play in to a CD, as this is a piece that I hope she will introduce to many chamber orchestras around the world

. Immediately I would like to propose it to Oslo Chamber Orchestra and to Risør Chamber Orchestra, Norway, as the Risør Festival is having the outstanding  viola soloist Lars Andreas Tomter as one of their two artistic leaders
. The other is from 2010 the outstanding violinist Henning Kraggerud.
