‘Elias og Jakten på Havets Gull’

and recorded by the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra win the the Nordic

Film Composers’ Award 2011

The international jury of the Nordic Film Composers’ Award has chosen Norwegian composer Gaute Storaasand his music for Lise I. Osvoll’s animated film, ‘Elias og Jakten på Havets Gull’ as the winner of the Nordic Film Composers’ Award 2011.

The recording was made by the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra in May 2010 with David Hernando Rico as orchestral conductor and Martin Roller as recording engeneer.

The Nordic Film Composers Network (NFCN) is the force behind the award, and consists of Danish Film & Media Composers (DFMC), The Icelandic Society of Authors & Composers (ISAC), The Norwegian Association of Composers and Authors (NOPA), Composers and Lyricists of Finland (ELVIS) and The Swedish Society of Popular Music Composers (SKAP).”

Gaute Storaas biografi:

Born in Norway (Bergen) 1959. Started as a bass player, and was from early on an active member of the local rock and jazz scene.
Studies, (political science and music,) at the university of Bergen. Attended Berklee college of Music, Boston, in 1984, and graduated
summa cum laude in 86. (major in arranging)
Returned to Norway, (Oslo) and did all kinds of writing work 
. Arranging for shows, broadcasting, recording sessions, composing for commercials, ommisioned films, tv idents, etc. Also found some time for music of
his own, and won the Danish Radio Orchestra competition for younger composers in 1989, with the work “Ouverture #2”.

Best known is probably all the ident music for the launch of TV2, the biggest commercial tv channel in Norway, in 1992.

The last decade, time has been split between composing for film and tv, and orchestral arranging for many of the most popular norwegian artists. Internationally known are, among others, acts as diverse as the
black metal band “Dimmu Borgir”, the singer Sissel, (the wordless voice of “Titanic”,) and young classical trumpet virtuoso Tine Thing Helseth.

Most recent film score is for the animated feature “Elias and the Treasure of the Sea”, which won the “Nordic Film Composers Award 2011”. The previous score, for “Elias and the Royal Yacht” and the tv
series that it was based on, “Elias, the little Rescue Boat”, (nominated for Emmy 2006), was given the “Edvardprisen 2007”, TONOs prestigous omposer award. ANd now

Nordic Film Composers’ Award 2011.

I den nye kinofilmen om vår kjente og kjære redningsskøyte Elias, som Gaute Storaas nettopp har vunnet Nordic Film Composer Award 2011 for,  har både han og fiskebåtene i hele Lunvik lenge gledet seg lenge til det årlige vinterfisket. Men et nytt, moderne fiskevær med store trålere tar fisken fra dem og truer Lunvik med nedleggelse.

Elias og jakten på havets gull, som Gaute Storaas nettopp har fått Noordic Film Award 2011 for musikken til.
