JACOB SHAW and BEATRICE BERRUT played ALEXANDRE BENÉTAU at Salle Cortot, Paris.

Review by Henning Høholt

The basement for this excellent concert was to present Alexandre Benétaus compositions, and specially his first presentation of his Suite for cello named “Franz Stock” in 5 parts for Jacob Shaw, they have worked together with the piece in Chartes in June 2013
.

The opening part of the “Franz Stock” Suite for cello solo,  was a well composed part that told about a melodic atmosphaere
. In the second part we net new details, pizzicato, and also a sadness feeling in the melodic atmosphaere which suited the soloist, Jacob Shaw´s style well, ending up with the soloist, like he was playing a dialogue with him self. Third part started with good harmonies, followed by a ajestetic finale, which also gave me ajazz feeling for a moment
. Ending up with the main theme with variations
. Beautifully performed, and still nearly 35 minutes long, it didn´t feel long.

Then the young Argentinian pianist Beatrice Berrut entered the stage, and first presented Benétau´s Prélude for piano named “1001 notes” . Followed by a piano highlight Franz Liszt Ballade no 2, brilliantly and very virtuose, and feeling full, performed by ms. Berrut.

After the break another highlight Serge Rachmaninoff´s demanding Sonate for cello and piano opus 19, which showed us two excellent soloists JACOB SHAW and BEATRICE BERRUT well prepared full of atmosphaere and musicality.

The concert ended with the third Benétau work this evening his Ballade for cello and piano.

They made a good musically atmosphaere.
