LONDON: CHRISTIE: 500 YEARS The European Connoisseur sale offers a closely curated selection of French, North European and Italian furniture andobjets d’art, sculpture and clocks spanning six centuries.
The sale is led by a rare group of 15 Regence and Louis XV Chinese and Japanese porcelain cache-pots and pot-pourri vases from an important private collection, with estimates ranging from £5,000 to £60,000

Also featured in the sale is a superb neoclassical Roman marquetry commode, inlaid with classical scenes inspired by the celebrated ornemaniste Giovanni Battista Piranesi, and a very fine pair of Empire ewers attributed to the foremost bronzier Claude Galle.
An opulent ormolu clock, by tradition a gift from the people of Bohemia to Emperor Ferdinand I of Austria, displays finely executed dials incorporating calendar work and a one-year duration moonphase, while a beautiful bronze model of a pacing lion is attributed to Gianfrancesco Susini, who trained in Giambologna’s studio and produced bronzes for the Medici family
