GRUPO CORPO - Imã

The wonderful rhythmic Brazilian Dance company GRUPO CORPO is guesting Theatre des Champs Elysees right now with Parabelo and Imã, choreographed by Rodrigo Pederneiras.

Parabello, from 1997, choreography by Rodrigo Pederniras, with music by Tom Zé Miguel Wisnik, was the opening performance, fascinating starting with 10 necks of heads of all the companies dancers, rhythmically moving to the great music, delicious lightened by Paulo Pederniras..After a short while a few long elegant legs was sticking up, and rhythmically changing to other groups of legs
. It was very fascinating. It continued with the group turning around, and continuing their rhythmically playing with groups movements following the music
. Until it ended up by all the dancers standing up continuing their movements, dress deliciously in dark red tricots, with red shoes, who gave it all an extra kick.

The music for the performance is like giving the basic for the variations, where the choreographer in a brilliant way is letting he inspire from the different parts, and using the feelings that he is getting from the music to give this as background for the rhythmic movements for the dancers. It all continued by changing forms of the detailed rhythmic, very much based on fast changing difficult work with legs and feet’s, sometimes looking like they are moving, going, but they are not, only giving the audience that feeling
.

Nearly it all is based on movements either going from the one side or the other side, so we enjoy a lot of profiles in the movements, nearly never doing movements towards the audience. This gives a special feeling of tranche, but not as a sad slowly tranche, mostly in fast dance work at a very high speed
. Always with small humoristic details. It is very repetitive, but in this connecting, this is the specialty of the company to do so, and in this way, it seems that they have been working a lot with this kind of movements, so it is very fascinating when it works so well. Changing of costumes, not into complicated costumes, but to tricots of all different kinds, and for the boys to tight boxer shorts, sexy.

GRUPO CORPO Imã

Imã, the second work choreography by Rodrigo Pederneiras, from 2009, is continuing the groups dance specialties, to the music by +2 Moreno Domenico Kassinbut, but not only music, also strange sounds. This is in another kind of light, a much lighter and newer feeling, starting up in light blue, but through the shifting light again by Paulo Pedernikas, who in this too is responsible for the decoration, the side walls, which was important for following the lighting changes. Freusa Zechmeister is responsible for the costumes on both of the performances, In fact again it is tricots, but in matching colours from grey, which is delicious to the colorful backgrounds to all the colours in the rainbow

. In some time chocking color combinations, as some times with for example all the stage in Pink, and the the dancers in Orange and strong Green, colours that normally not are fitting so easily together, but in this connection wonderful.

In Imã the choreographer is moving away from only the rhythmic version for bigger or smaller groups also to letting two or three dancers making their own small pas de deux, but not as an usual “normal” pas de deux, look the pictures, they tells a lot more than it is possible to describe with words.

During the evening too some interesting jump combinations for the male dancers.
