Elegant Homage to Maya Plisetskaya

At Theatre des Champs Elysees a Homage to Maya Plisetskaya December 6th. The former primaballerina was celebrating her 85 years Birthday November 20th, but is still going strong.

The programme started with an excerpt from a documentary film called Ave Maia by Nikita Tikhanov, where we saw app

. 15 min with Maya Plisetskaya dancing  from Don Quixote and from other ballets, one of them a charming little piece to one of the tunes from Schuberts Kindertotenlieder.

The ballet part with international stars,  started with the Corsaire Pas de deux, brilliantly danced by Alexandra Timofeeva and Andrey Batalo, to Adams music and choreography by Petipa.

After that the pass de deux from The Sleeping Beauty by Tsjaikovsky/Petipa with Ludmila Konovalova and Semen Chudin as soloists.

Sheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov/ Fokine danced by Ilze Liepa and Nikolay Tsiskaridze. This was folloved bythe solo Élégie by J.Massanet/Petrov delicately danced by Andrey Merkuriev, and the first part ended with the Pas de Deux Talisman with music by R.Drigo and choreography by Petipa, danced by Maria Alexandrova and Mikhail Lobukhin.

Second part started with Ilze Liepa performing Boleéro til Maurice Ravels famouse music, in a choreography by J.Smoriginas. After that the second parts highlights the white Pas de deux from Swan Lake by Tsjaikovskij/Lev Ivanov elegant danced by Ludmila Pagliero and Christophe Duquenne. This was followed by one of mrs Plisetskaias own highlights the Carmen Suite with Bizets music, but in the wonderful arrangemant by Rodion Schedrin, which is for only string instruments and percussion of all kinds. Brilliantly danced by Maria Alexandrovva and Andrey Merkuriev

After that s The Black Swan Pas de Deux from 3rd act of Swan Lake by Tsjaikovsky/Petipa delicately and very virtuose danced by by Ludmila Konovalova and Semen Chudin.

Ilze Liepa performed a solo called The Meeting, where she on the one side is a feminime young elegant woman, and on the other side a masculin dressman, elegantly performed, with good details, choreographed by J.Smoriginas to music by Michel Legrand and I. Krutoi.

The whole show ended with one of Maya Plisetskayas own success the Grand pas de deux from Don Quixote by Minkus/Petipa, superbt danced by Alexandra Timofeeca and Andrey Batalov. Then all the dancers was on stage surrounding Maya Plisetskaya who received dthe appluse to the ending music from Ravels Bolero. A big successfull event.

In the programme I was all the way missing information about who was respomsible for the dancers costumes, the lighting

The program was elegantly telling and presenting photos from Maya Plisetskaya´s carriere. Well done.

It was an extraordinaire occassion to meet the grand star again on stage.

In her loge of honour Maya Plisetskaya were surronded by Frederic Mitterand, Birgitte Lefevre, Pierre Cardin, Rodion Schedrin, Patrick Barth and Sofia Dauranova-Loze and other celebrities, as fra as we could see.
