LA TRAVIATA in Florence. Problematic!
7/02/12 •
FLORENCE: Now the Teatro Comunale of Florence proposes this opera once more, and rightly so, also because Verdi’s masterpiece is an ideal start for those who see operas on stage for the first time, or for a young audience, something that the opera world needs very much. Review by Fabio Bardelli.
Defi Altabeb in Napoli
7/02/12 •
NAPOLI: In these last days of the Napoli Teatro Festival, there has been an interesting focus on Israeli dance, hosting three companies from that country, including young choreographer Defi Altabeb with her ‘Sensitivity to heat’, Sensitivity to heat was a world prèmiere as we have seen it, and musically based on opera: instrumental music and two arias from famous works: Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette, Verdi’s Traviata, Pochielli’s Dance of the hours from Gioconda, Rossini’s Barbiere, Carmen. Review by Bruno Tredicine.

WHO’S NEXT catwalk show
6/30/12 •
PARIS: The WHO’S NEXT catwalk show is a must-see during the trade show. As addictive as ever, you’ll feel like watching it every day and maybe even twice a day! Inspired and inspiring, this catwalk show – a lot more than a simple fashion show – is a real creative boost, a shot of adrenaline. Staged just like a music hall, it’s a dance show built around one specific theme each season that includes a wide range of creative talents.
LES BALLETS RUSSES – in Paris
6/29/12 •
Last evening, it was the premiere of the “Russian Seasons of 21st Century” at Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris. The 4th season was promising, with Le Spectre de la Rose and The Firebird, by Mikhail Fokine, but also surprising with an original choreography by Patrick de Bana called Cléopâtre – Ida Rubinstein. It was a great success. Review by Christophe de Jouvancourt..

PARIS: “Art has lost the last representative of great painting”, wrote Paul Claudel in Le Figaro on 14 December 1945, on the death of his friend José María Sert. He was a “modern Baroque”, full of references to mainstream tradition but declaring the topicality of his art. Visited by Henning Høholt and Tomas Bagackas.

Amazing Jennifer Larmore as Lady Macbeth in Geneve.
6/22/12 •
GENEVA: Christof Loy has staged an amazing black and white Macbeth at the Geneva Opera. Amazing because of two significant details. He has done it in black and white as an old film, but with very clear personages played on stage, and that he is having the outstanding soprano Jennifer Larmore in the demanding role as Lady Macbeth, Review by Henning Høholt
FAUSTIN LINYEKULA with Ballet Lorraine at Theatre de la Ville
6/22/12 •
PARIS: The world premiere at Theatre de la Ville, Paris, wednesday evening, became a faschinating experience in the main first part, where the choreographer, FAUSTIN LINYEKULA, has arranged the show with the companys 24 dancers in an innteresting way. Without touching each other for nearly all the first part of the performance, he managed to let the groups show inteesting formations, without telling any history, Review by Henning Høholt.

Cinderella in Oslo
6/14/12 •
OSLO: This Cinderella production, as it is the same with the other Sergei Prokofiev whole evening ballet, Romeo and Juliet by Michale Corder at the repertoire of the National Ballet of Norway , both from the famouse periode with Dinna Bjørn as balletchief, has gained by being moved to the bigger stage in the new operahouse. It gives the dancers the extra space they need to do a good job, and both performances are very representative for the company and its high international standard. Review by Henning Høholt
MAKROPULOS CASE in Napoli.
6/13/12 •
NAPOLI: Emilia Marty, Elian MacGregor, Eugenia Montez… Elina Makropulos. Like a dark lady in a mistery american movie, the diva whose initals are E.M. displays all her identities one after the other before we discover that in more than three centuries she has really been all these women, simply because she has lived so long: three hundred thirty six years. Review by Bruno Tredicine.
Thomas Lund forstander for Det Kongelige Teaters Balletskole
6/12/12 •
