Bjørn Wiinblad – Ny serie fra Rosendahl – Danmark
4/08/15 •
Turandot in Napoli

NAPOLI/ITALY: Opera by Giuseppe Verdi at Theatro San Carlo in Napoli. The costumes that the choir had, inspired by terracotta warriors from China, was great. They also had some such sculptures in giant size placed on the stage. Jennifer Wilson sang clear, but was no particular living “figure” on stage. Besides, her two outfits tedious and unbecoming. Regi: Roberto de Simone. Review by Synnøve Nord

MONTE CARLO/MONACO: The great seducer himself will always be the crucial point in a production of this Mozart masterpiece. Uruguyan Erwin Schrott has been a Mozart star on the world stage for twenty years and knows his score. He makes a good team with his servant Leporello, the excellent Rumanian Adrian Sampetrean, and the two have just completed a Don Giovanni-series in a different production in Paris. Don Giovanni in Lucca
3/13/15 •
LUCA/ITALY: This new production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni has been staged in several opera houses in Italy, and has now arrived in Lucca, Teatro del Giglio. Its visual impact is really very strong, stage director Rosetta Cucchi has located the opera in 1980s in America, cutting every tie to Lorenzo da Ponte’s libretto. The performance alternates good moments to other where the level is very low. Review by Fabio Bardelli.

DRESDEN/GERMANY: Caspar David Friedrich (1774–1840) and Johan Christian Dahl (1788–1857) are regarded as the leading figures of Nordic landscape painting in the Romantic era. The city of Dresden provided these two great innovators with a stimulating environment where their art could develop and flourish. Here, in their adopted homeland, they shared a house for almost 20 years, passing on their pioneering artistic approach to a generation of younger artists.
